Customer Service Training Rolled Out in Time for Start of Summer Season on Alabama's Beaches

5/10/2010

GULF SHORES and ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – Approximately 4.5 million people choose to spend their time and money to visit Alabama’s white-sand beaches. While these families are relaxing on our shores, ensure that they return to the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach area by taking your staff’s training to the next level of customer service with the Five Star Southern Hospitality Training program.

A free Hospitality 101 session will be offered at the Gulf Shores Adult Activity Center on Monday, May 17 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Additional upcoming classes will be held at the Gulf Shores campus of Faulkner State Community College (FSCC) and are scheduled for the fourth Monday and Tuesday of May and June. The class schedule is as follows:
  • Hospitality 101 (free) – May 24 from 9 .m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • Tele-Sales Skills – May 24 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Internal Customer Service Skills – May 25 from 9 a.m. to noon
  • Coaching for Managers – May 25 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Hospitality 101 (free) – June 28 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

  • Exceeding Customer Expectations – June 29 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Five Star Southern Hospitality certification is offered to both individuals and businesses who meet certain training requirements. To become certified, individuals must first complete the Hospitality 101 class, which is free. Program participants will then take four of the six remaining classes, each of which costs $25.00. After completing these classes, the student will be awarded a Five Star Southern Hospitality certification. After 70 percent of a company’s permanent workforce becomes certified through this customer service training program, the company will then be named a Five Star Southern Hospitality Provider.

Pre-registration must be completed by the Friday prior to the classes. Local businesses should note direct billing is available and will streamline the registration process for their employees. To complete the mandatory pre-registration for a Five Star course, contact Tracie McGreal at 251-990-0445 or tmcgreal@faulknerstate.edu.

The Five Star program is a partnership between the Office of Workforce Development at FSCC, the Alabama Gulf Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Foley Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Alabama Gulf Coast Area Chamber of Commerce and the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce.
