Volunteer and Speakers Sought for Popular Kids' Summer Camp at "The Little Zoo That Could"

4/19/2010

GULF SHORES, Ala. – With the start of summer vacation quickly approaching, organizers with the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo are gearing up for its annual Zoo Camp. The popular “Little Zoo That Could” in Gulf Shores, Ala., is once again welcoming children to its affordable yet educational and fun summer camp, which is set for June 21 through 25.

“This annual zoo camp means the world to our children and to the zoo,” said Zoo Camp Director Lisa Murphy. “We are very fortunate to provide this week-long educational day camp. It helps children develop an appreciation and respect for the animals that will last a life time.”

With newly implemented incentives, local businesses are invited to become zoo camp sponsors at the platinum ($1000.00), gold ($750.00), silver ($500.00), bronze ($250.00) or pearl ($100.00) levels. These participating businesses will have their company name and logo displayed on a sponsorship sign located inside the zoo for one year. Businesses or individuals are also welcome to donate supplies for the camp or to make a financial (tax-deductable) contribution.

“We are also looking for volunteer teachers and teenage counselors to fill out our roster," Murphy added. “These teenagers are a great asset to our certified teaching staff, who also graciously donate their time and knowledge.”

Counselors must be at least 13 years of age and need to have parental consent if he or she is under 18 years old.

Finally, zoo camp officials are searching for local environmental or animal-related businesses who would like to be a guest speaker during the camp.

All sponsorships, donations, volunteers or guest speakers should contact Lisa Murphy or Kim Dahlgren at 251 968-4910
